EDAG’s BatteRANGE concept will be presented at this year’s IAA Commercial Vehicles as a modular and scalable chassis concept for every powertrain of the future. GF Casting Solutions will be present as EDAG’s partner, presenting its lightweight housings for battery modules which can be easily integrated into the truck chassis.
Due to the current developments of all leading automotive and truck manufacturers in the field of alternative powertrains, new developments of lightweight solutions will also play an increasingly important role. Especially in trucks, e-mobility means that batteries are combined in modules and housed in frames. EDAG’s BatteRANGE concept is such an example, which, in addition to three other powertrain concepts, also introduces a chassis for a truck with electric drive.
Lightweight housing for battery modules
The aluminum battery housings were developed by the Research and Development department of the GF Casting Solutions AG in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. The BatteRANGE chassis includes the cast battery housings which are scalable for any installation space. In addition to the innovative lightweight construction, aluminum high-pressure die casting offers variability and freedom of design. This flexibility is particularly required when additional functions are to be integrated into the component.
